I’m Back!

I keep saying I’m going to post regularly and make a good go at this blogging thing.

Well, I’m doing it.

It’s been a year since I started with Orange Theory Fitness. It’s the first workout that I’ve found that keeps me wanting to go back, every day. I like that I don’t need to think about the workout. I don’t have to do any type of planning beyond booking a class and showing up. There’s a freedom in it that really appeals to me. Plus, it’s a really good, varied, workout each class. As a result of sticking to it for the year, I am down almost 30 pound and two dress sizes. People have asked how I did it.

Here’s my secret.

I eat. I hate restricting myself. Especially with food. I have known food issues which creates some obsticles but overall I’m not a fan of crazy diets. I’m never going to beat myself up over what I eat. If I want a cookie, I’ll have a cookie. Cheat days are not a thing in my life. If I want a certain food, I’m going to eat it. I love food. The whole process around food. I like growing it, purchasing it, preparing it for eating, and eating it. There’s joy in the whole process from beginning to end. Plus it’s a fabulous stress reliever. The best thing about food, is the social aspect that can come from it. Preparing and eating a meal with friends and family is always an adventure. We all have to eat, why not enjoy it.

When we restrict ourselves from enjoying the food we eat, and start treating it like a chore, we over eat and make “bad” food choices. We end up with cravings and restrict further to treat ourselves when we are afforded a “cheat day.” Don’t live to eat, eat to live. And really live.

We lead stressful lives as it is, why stress about what you are eating? Enjoying food is a great way to take a break away from the stress in your life.

Just enjoy the cookie.
