Deliciousness
Getting healthy and loosing weight seem to be the hot topics all across the country these days. There are more diet plans, weight loss schemes, videos, and the like than ever on the market these days. I have over the years tried a few of them. I've done the all liquid diet. I did loose weight on that one, but after a few days, I had to eat something solid. I've tried starving myself, but that didn't work, much like the all liquid one. I got hungry after a few hours. I even briefly tried Atkins. Now I loved the eating meat thing, but I found I lacked the energy after awhile that only good carbs can give you. Last fall I got really sick and found the best diet yet.
Granted it did not start out as the best diet. I found I couldn't eat a lot. I got heart burn from toast and solid food was not my friend. But the majority of the foods that I couldn't eat were the high fat, high grease foods. Fried foods were off the menu. I ended up on baby food. Yes the stewed vegetables and fruits. No I could not bring myself to eat the dinners that have the meat in them. Those just smell awful. Within a month I was down fifteen pounds. As it turned out, the problem with my digestive track was due to a faulty gallbladder.
After having my gallbladder removed, I could have gone back to the way I had been eating before the problems. But I couldn't see putting that weight back on. Instead, I started running and really watched what I ate. To this day, I can't do fried or really greasy foods and I have a problem with lactose and some proteins. My diet is rich in fruits and vegetables and good carbs. I put ten pounds back on after the surgery as I started eating again.
Recently I started one of those video work out programs that also has a diet plan with it. 10 pounds and 10 inches in 10 days. I haven't been following as I should be, but I have lost five pounds over the last month and now weigh less than I did my freshman year of college, six years ago. But one of the best things that I discovered this morning about the diet plan, is the fact that it's real food and easy to do. I've had two smoothies today one as breakfast and the other as a snack. For lunch I had a nice filling ham and cheese sandwich and tonight for dinner, I'm having a turkey burger. In total today, I will have eaten right about 1600 calories. I'm not tired at all. I actually have more energy than I've had since I stopped playing sports. I'm really excited about this weight loss program.
In addition to this, I just joined a 90 challenge program with some friends. I'm going to be posting here each day my little musings and updates on how well or how horribly I've done. Over the next 90 days, I hope to get back to my swimming body.
Here is the recipe for the smoothies I've had today. They can be altered where noted.
For one smoothie you need:
3/4 cup frozen raspberries (another frozen fruit can be used)
One scoop protein powder (optional)
If not using the protein powder, 1/2 ripe banana
1 cup skim or low fat milk (can use soy or rice milk instead)
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Enjoy!
If you use fresh fruit you will need to add a couple ice cubes.
