Day Ten

While eating my lunch (cucumber and cream cheese sandwich with a side of peas from Tea and Sympathy) I starting thinking about what today means. Today wraps up the end of two weeks; marking the half way point through this job; two weeks left of 2.5 hour commutes; two weeks left working in New York City. What I have learned so far:
  • Strangers are extremely nice;
  • New York is full of really hot foreign delivery guys;
  • Public transit is a great way to meet people;
  • Pigeons in Port Authority are usually missing their left feet;
  • I can hail a cab like a native New Yorker;
  • I do not look like I'm from out of town;
  • People are shocked I'm from Ohio;
  • I actually love New York's skyline;
  • I do not like Atlantic City's;
  • New York is one of the cleanest looking cities I have ever been in;
  • No place is New Orleans, except New Orleans;
  • I want to shop at Barney's just for shits and giggles;
  • Actually I just want a Barney's shopping bag full of tissue;
  • Drugged out girls cannot do simple math;
  • Many people cannot do simple math;
  • I hate being stopped by someone looking for Time's Square;
  • Especially standing at 42nd and 8th;
  • I do not like Atlantic City's bus terminal;
  • Actually I don't like much about Atlantic City;
  • I miss New Orleans;
  • and home;
  • I absolutely love my life;
  • I don't know if I want to be a lawyer;
  • I am actually excited about the fact that I have no idea what I will be doing after July 17th.
  • I want to travel, that I am certain;
  • I love British food.
It's a long list, but it's what I know now. At 25 years old, I love that I have no real idea what I want to be when I grow up. A part of me still wants to be a lawyer, because that same part still wants to be judge. It's the safety. It's the “what-Meghan-has-always-wanted-to-do.” But after this experience, I think I want to write. I want a job that allows me to travel, and not just for leisure. I either want to work for a magazine or a news outlet. I'm leaning toward a magazine position that has a strong online following. And actually earlier today, I looked at Food & Wine Magazine's openings, and they are looking for some writers for exclusively online content. I'm going to have to apply. Which also means I'm going to have to beef up my posts here about the food I've eaten. And also do more reviews on yelp. But overall, I am truly excited about not knowing what I am doing this fall. It's a little scary what with the student loans and all, but I love it anyway. It's a blessing of sorts that I haven't been accepted into law school yet. I have a Master's degree and I'm fine if that's all I get. Okay, maybe after a few years I'll get my PhD. ...
